I have to say I was in love with Kristen as soon as I started to read Protecting Katie. She is such a real character that you believe in her the entire time. You want her to have her happily ever after but you understand why she is afraid of it. You completely understand why she does what she does in the book, and you want to cry with her and be happy for her, kind-of like your best friend. She is torn between believing what her head is telling her and what her heart is telling her.Morgan, well he acts like an ass and you want to hate him, but then you realize why he is the way he is. If you are a parent, you understand why he needs to protect Katie, why he would fight till the end for her, I mean she is a 8 year old little girl, who wouldn't fight for her. Then Kristen changes his plans and he is unsure what to do. Then there is Jeff, he is all business. You understand quickly what is truly important to him, and who is just a pawn in his sad game.
All of these characters are written with such depth that you want to love them or hate them, and the story is believable, it is so real and yet so perfect too.
This is the first book I have read by H. D Thomson, but it will not be the last!!

Protecting Katie is a suspenseful and touching tale of one man's love for his daughter and his need to protect her. From the beginning you are drawn into this story and really come to understand all of the characters and their motivation behind the way they act, and what they do.
Kristen is a great heroine that wins you over right from the start. She is real and you journey with her through this story hoping that she can find happiness, even if she does not trust it. With Morgan, you just want to knock him upside the head and make him stop being such as ass. The connection and intensity between the two is fierce and wonderful. The lengths that both go to protect Katie from her biological father, and the love that that blooms between them is unsure, tentative, and grows stronger as it is tested.
Get lost in a story of love, betrayal, redemption, and the strength of the heart!

I was introducted to H.D. Thomson through the Pure Romance book bundle and have truely enjoyed this Romantic Suspense novel. I am new to suspense books, reading mostly Paranormal Romance and Contemporary NA. I will have to say I was suprised and delighted!!
H.D. Thomson is a smooth writter and keeps you thrilled and guessing. In this story Morgan Stone has a daughter he would do just about anything to protect. He is sneaky and he is a total alpha but with his daughter he is a teddy bear!! (Did I mention he was rich and handsome?) When Kati's bio-dad decideds to show up and stir up the happy home, Morgan Stone decides to stir up Jeff's "happy home". Little does he know that by doing so he will meet Kristen St. John and other things begin to stir. FEELINGS!!!
The book was written very well and the characters lept off the page. I totally wanted to kick Jeff for being such a Tyrant and a looser, BUT I found that Kristen was a strong and level headed main character. A perfect match for Morgan!!! (Did I mention he was rich and handsome?)
Who's lies will she believe? Where will she end up!! I thought it would be predictable but it was not!! I liked that a lot about the book!! I do want more so I need to go a hunting for more of her books!!!

i got this book from a much loved author to try and get other authors books read. it worked. i really liked the story and charecters evolved well. so mission accomplished. i will read more by this author.
This book wasn't badly written but the storyline was really pretty weak. So much of what happens would never happen in real life.
**Spoilers**
The h is engaged to the H's nemesis. The H is trying to prevent the nemesis from getting his daughter. I'm not sure about the law but I can't believe that the nemesis would have any legal rights even if he was the child's biological father. The h then accepts a job working for the H, which again stretches credibility since she knows that there is a huge problem between her fiance and the H. I really didn't buy the fact that a) the H would employ her and b) would then act on any attraction. The author never created the tension in a believable way. We're also supposed to believe that the h has never slept with her fiance but at the drop of a hat she sleeps with the H. I could go on and on but I won't bother.
Anyway I couldn't accept all the different problems with the plot and can't recommend this book.
This is a great book and just as good as The Long Road Home when it
comes to character development. I love how the author is able to get me
invested in the characters and right inside their heads. I also loved
the relationship between Morgan and Katie. There were some nice twists
that I wasn't expecting and I don't want to go into detail because it
will give too much away, but this was truly a great story and a fast read!
Katie is engaged to jeff , an absolute cad. Morgan hates Jeff and is looking for ways to discredit him. At times Katie comes across as so naive and stupid as Jeff is concerned. She frustrated me and at times I questioned how Morgan could find her so attractive.
I really liked the book. From the first chapter I was already intrigued by the plot. Morgan is trying to protect his little girl and hide a secret as well. Kristen happens to step into the picture with what she thinks is the perfect man to marry. Well lets just say.....he has some major skeletons in his closet. I thought the story itself was wonderful and you were able to develop feeling for each of the characters (not all good feelings). The only reason I could not give it five stars was the editing was terrible. Example- if it should've said "he reached for something".....it would say "her eached for something". I had to go back several times to make sure I read it correctly )
But overall this book was wonderful! Must read it )
